Stump grinding is the process of using a machine with several carbide-cutting teeth that remove wood fibers with each pass of the cutting head by swinging from side to side.

 

Our stump grinding service process first starts with marking the stump with white paint and calling 811 to get all utilities marked before any grinding begins.

 

We grind the stump below ground level typically between 6-8" leaving the tree's unexposed roots to decay over time. If the goal is to plant grass seed and not plant another tree or if the ground will be dug up for construction purposes, landscaping hardscape projects, or any other reason a full stump grind service would be appropriate. Then we suggest grinding the stump below grade, hauling away the wood debris, and backfilling with topsoil and grass seed.

Stump grinding can be dangerous because of the high speed of the grinding wheel, so we use a three-sided safety shield when there is a high risk of damage to property or people. This shield also helps with containing the grinding debris. Our stump grinder is operated by remote control allowing us to be very precise when stumps are near objects that could otherwise be damaged from the cutting teeth.
